Texas-Based Dickies Apparel Brand Heads to Costa Mesa, California in 2025

Dickies, a longstanding name in Texas’ apparel industry, has announced plans to move its headquarters to Costa Mesa, California, marking a significant shift away from its century-old roots in Texas. The relocation, set for early 2025, is a strategic decision influenced by California’s economic appeal, which boasts the world’s fifth-largest economy and is home to numerous Fortune 500 companies.

California Governor Gavin Newsom expressed enthusiasm for the move, saying, “California continues to lead the way with a strong job market and consistent economic growth. We are pleased to welcome Dickies to the Golden State — the fifth-largest economy in the world and a welcoming place to grow and support their ongoing success.” Dickies’ relocation further strengthens California’s position as a business hub, joining its sister company, Vans, which also operates under the VF Corporation umbrella.

In 2023, California’s economy ranked as the fifth-largest in the world, with a nominal GDP nearing $3.9 trillion and a year-on-year growth of 6.1%. This economic growth is fueled by the state’s dominance in sectors like high-tech innovation, manufacturing, and agriculture. It also leads the nation in venture capital funding and new business startups, contributing to a robust job market. With more Fortune 500 companies based in California than in any other state, the move underscores the state’s business-friendly environment.

California’s business landscape includes more than 1.7 million private sector establishments, which generate almost 87% of the state’s employment opportunities. The state also boasts a vibrant tourism industry, which saw a record-breaking $150.4 billion in travel spending last year. The governor’s office continues to champion economic growth, with initiatives like the California Jobs First Economic Blueprint, designed to strategically guide investments and foster job creation for the decade ahead.
